Finite Element Analysis

During a FEA Module in Year 2 of my course i conducted a series of studies, looking at static, buckling, fatigue and frequency properties of solid elements in two projects. One as part of a group, looking at a lightweight water tower for the sub-Saharan region, and one individually, looking at tandem bicycle design.

Lightweight Water Tower

Above are bucking, static and fatigue studies for the final tower iteration.

Tandem Bicycle Design

Above are static studies and the fundamental frequency mode for each design iteration. The design was iterated to ensure the fundamental frequency was greater than 30 Hz, had the desired properties under static loading conditions, and the amplitude minimized. Material was also changed and the impact of this studied.
